A "HELPER" TO HELP YOU TRANSFORMFROM THE INSIDE OUT ™
Family Therapy Session

Meet Judith Helper

Everyone has a unique life story that includes challenges and struggles as well as strengths, resiliency, perseverance and areas of triumph. I believe that growth, healing and transformation are possible for everyone and that therapy can be an incredibly powerful discovery process. Whether you're dealing with a significant life transition, struggling with relationship or family issues, interested in personal growth or experiencing stress and symptoms of anxiety and/or depression, there is a path to healing and restoration.

I became a therapist because I understand both personally and professionally the issues and challenges that plague so many of us in this complex and dynamic world. I believe that through self-exploration and building a greater awareness of all of your parts (beliefs, feelings, ideas) that you are able to discover yourself in a different way. Similarly to the Disney character in the movie Inside Out, we all have multiple parts (beliefs, feelings, ideas) that we need to explore and understand how they affect or impact our choices. After all, most of us have times when we feel conflict where "one part of us feels one way" and another part of us feels "another way." By understanding these different parts, you become better equipped to understand why you think or feel a certain way, can weigh out different decisions and ultimately begin the process of transformation in your life.

I work with adults, teenagers, couples and families with a specialty in women's issues, blended family/remarriage, anxiety, depression, trauma, addictions and life/career transitions counseling. I'm passionate about these areas because they are prevalent in our society and impact how people may function in their daily lives. Unresolved trauma, in particular, can keep us feeling stuck, unproductive and like we are not moving toward our life goals. Unresolved trauma and feelings of stagnancy can also lead to feelings of anxiety, depression and possibly addictive behaviors that can prevent us from seeing hope in our current situation. As a trained EMDR therapist, I can help you process trauma and understand why you have continued to make certain choices. Through this work, you can begin to feel more powerful and in control of the direction for your life.

I celebrate diversity in my practice-and life-and love working with people of all backgrounds, ages, genders, cultures and faiths. I take a solution-focused approach and bring compassion and hope to the work I do with clients. I'll support you as we work to understand the current narrative of your life and develop actionable steps you can take toward your goals while staying true to your own values and needs.

As a wife and mother who raised a blended family and someone who has been impacted by the many stresses and challenges of life, I know how confusing and hard life can sometimes be. But, I also know how effective working with a skilled therapist can be in helping to dissolve stigmas and stereotypes around things like divorce, single parenting, remarriage, step-parenting and addiction. So many of us can benefit from guidance, support and solutions in those times when we feel alienated, different, confused and alone. Regardless of what you're going through right now, I know-really know-that there is a path to a happier and healthier way of being. You may just need a little help finding it.

Although I am clinically trained, I recognize that I don't have all of the answers and prefer to guide you toward finding the right solutions for you. I believe that each person has their own personal pathway, and I'll continually learn about you-your process of thinking, feelings and needs-as we travel on your transformational journey together. I am collaborative, real, understanding, open and extremely compassionate. I love working with people, and will listen, ask thoughtful questions and help you think more directly about your choices, where you want to go and who you want to be.

The earlier part of my career was in marketing and communications for a Fortune 500 company within a global, multicultural business setting. Although I always knew that I would eventually become a psychotherapist, I also knew that life and work experiences would help me become a great sounding board for clients from all walks of life. Within my business interactions, I learned that no matter who a person was, finding meaning in their work created feelings of relevancy and deep personal fulfillment. Today, I provide a therapeutic relationship and space in which you can explore your purpose and foster meaning, relevancy and personal fulfillment in your life.

My therapeutic style is highly intuitive, and I'm able to recognize patterns of thinking and behavior, as well as identify the many moving parts at play right away. I'm skilled at understanding people's point of view and building the connections necessary to help my clients identify and carve out new, more empowering and fulfilling choices.  I listen with my heart and mind, but also pick up on those things that are left unspoken, which allows me to quickly assess what might be happening with an individual, couple or family. My work with Internal Family Systems (IFS) enables me to see the many parts (beliefs, feelings, ideas) that make up a person, relationship and family. I help clients accept all of their parts by nurturing the parts that are healthy and challenging parts that are not productive. I believe that through getting to know your beliefs, feelings and ideas, you can transform and reinvent yourself at any stage of life.

I truly believe that creating a healthy work-life balance is vital to happiness. Outside of my practice, family, community, spirituality and self-care are very important to me. I enjoy traveling, listening to music, going to concerts, reading, working out and taking ample time to rest and recharge. I also enjoy interior decorating and the transformation that can happen when a room(s) or an entire home is restored. When you clear out the old things that have no use for you, add new things and bring light and life into a space, you are able to create a more welcoming environment. The parallels between interior decorating and therapy are truly amazing! Just as you can restore beauty to an old room or home and bring out its true essence and personality, you can accomplish the same interior work in therapy. There's no doubt that through getting to know yourself better and finding your life's purpose that you can find personal fulfillment and feel transformed. Let me be the "Helper" as you transform from the inside out.

Regardless of what you're grappling with, please know that there is help and always hope for healing, growth, discovery and transformation.
